Dudley Building Society is heading back to the classroom as part of its commitment to developing closer links with the local community.
The Society’s Stourbridge Branch has forged a relationship with Glasshouse College, which is based at the site of the old Royal Doulton crystal factory in Amblecote, and Branch Manager Angie Taylor is turning tutor to present a workshop for the college’s pupils.
The purpose of the session is to provide pupils with a basis for understanding important life skills such as saving, budgeting and managing personal finances.
The College is a part of the Ruskin Mill Educational Trust, a charitable educational Trust which provides an innovative and experiential education for 16 to 25 year olds with special learning needs.
Angie Taylor, Branch Manager at the Dudley’s Stourbridge Branch, said:
“Dudley Building Society has developed a constructive relationship with Glasshouse College during the year and we have seen at first hand how the pupils respond to the methods of teaching and the happy and positive atmosphere there.
“The Society felt there was a good opportunity for us to pass on some of our knowledge which could benefit pupils as they prepare themselves for the outside world beyond College.”
Gail Hickman, Student Council Coordinator at Glasshouse College, commented:
“Dudley Building Society and Angie Taylor have been very supportive of Glasshouse College and we thought it would be a valuable opportunity for some of the pupils to learn about saving and finances. We hope to help them open an account with the Dudley and support them in making a start on the road to independently looking after their own finances.”
Dudley Building Society’s workshop at Glasshouse College takes place on Wednesday October 19th.
